Day 2, Bangkok (B)
Enjoy a combined walking tour of Bangkok’s hidden temples and streets, with a visit to a former prison to learn about life behind bars. Then cruise down the city’s canals to experience everyday life on the water. The tour starts with a trip a boat trip on the canals of Bangkok as we travel to the Bangkok Corrections Museum, located on the site of a former maximum security prison, built in 1890. Three blocks, a cell block, part of the prison wall, and 2 watchtowers were preserved when the prison was demolished, and exhibits include photographs and a scale model of the old prison compound, life-sized wax depictions of execution scenes, and the execution chamber and quarters where prisoners would eat their last meal.  Next, visit Wat Suthat Thepwararam, where the well-known Giant Swing is located. A relatively quiet temple, the ambiance within the walls is in sharp contrast to the hectic traffic outside. Continue along Bamrung Muang Road, running through the old city districts, where many forgotten buildings reflect how fast the city has changed. See the Silver Pagoda and spires of Loha Prasart, and the chedi of Golden Mount and Wat Saket, where the city views are rewarding.
