ITINERARY
DAY 1: CHIANG MAI - CHIANG DAO (L/D)
Pick up from hotel in the morning and transfer to start of the ride at Bua Thong waterfall. From here we ride along country back roads before cutting off road and riding an elephant trail through the forest to our resort near Chiang Dao. The hotel has a great pool and a swim is a fine way to finish off a great riding day. [Ride 30 km]
DAY 2: CHIANG DAO TRIBAL TRAILS (B/L/D)
We take a transfer from our resort to the Chiang Dao caves and the start of our ride. After a visit to the cave we'll ride through rice fields set among soaring limestone cliffs. Our ride will be a mixture of dirt paths cut by local hill tribes and we may meet some local tribes people - Akha, Lisu, and Palaung – from the area. The colourful Palaung are recent migrants and you will see their women adorned with heavy brass waist-bands working the fields. [Ride 35 km]
DAY 3: BACK ROADS - MAE SALAK (B/L/D)
After breakfast we transfer to Tub Tao Caves and a temple retreat and then on to Fang and the start of our ride. From here we ride the back roads through many small villages. The ride to Mae Salak follows the Mae Kok river and is one of the most scenic on the trip. We end the day's pleasurable ride at the small town of Mae Salak and give you time to enjoy the well-situated resort. After enjoying the view over the river from your room, or having a dip in the pool, you'll be entertained by local Lahu children who will come to the resort and perform traditional music and dance. [Ride 35 km]
DAY 4: RIDE - CHIANG RAI (B)
We start from the resort and ride 8 km (optional) off road to a Lakhu village where we then hitch a ride on a long-tail boat (with our bikes) to Ban Ruamitr. There’s an option to have a ride on an elephant around this area before we finally mount the bikes and head to Chiang Rai. [Ride 30 km]
